PATRICK SHOENUT
With great sadness we
announce the passing of Patrick on Saturday, April 27, 2013. To paraphrase a
favorite author, “he died of a long word of the heart”.
Left to cherish Patrick’s memory are
his loving wife Beth, daughter Meredith (Kevin Swibaker), and granddaughter
Muirenn; Michigan family: mother Beatrice Daniel, sisters Marianne (Marcus
Helms), Diane (David Rodriquez) and Lynn Shoenut Yaney; brothers Tim (Nancy)
and Tony Daniel (Karen); and many friends and relatives across Canada and the
United States. He was predeceased by brother Christopher and father Bob Daniel
of Riverview, Michigan and his grandparents Ernie and Francis LaCroix, and
Bernard and Zelpha Daniel.
In the 1990s, Patrick established a
laboratory to study esophageal motility and pH in various surgical and medical
conditions. He worked with such diligence that he earned for himself the
reputation of becoming an international authority on the subject, having
published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in medical science journals. In
recent years, Patrick’s work in northern Manitoba schools touched many lives
and, in return, gave him joy and numerous adventures.
A family gathering will be held at a
later date to celebrate Patrick’s life.
Patrick was a scientist, an
educator, enthusiast of nature and wildlife, passionate and funny and a great
raconteur. He enjoyed books, hunting and fishing. He loved his home by the Red
and the return of wood ducks in the spring. We’re so glad he was present at the
start of another homecoming.
