Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Joan Heggie's Funeral Arrangements

JOAN HEGGIE

Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, Joan succumbed to her illness with courage and dignity and passed away at the age of 86 years.
Remaining to forever cherish Joan’s memory are her two daughters, Lois (Harold) Demetzer of Thunder Bay, ON and Janis (Philip) Nemeth of Surrey, BC; loving son, John (Colleen) of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Thomas and Robert Demetzer, Andrew and Megan Nemeth and Madison Heggie.  She was predeceased by husband Hugh after 56 years of marriage in June 2005; and sister, Grace Robertson in 2000.
Joan was born on Bowman Avenue, Winnipeg, daughter of Margaret and John Elder.  She was the younger of two daughters.  When she met Hugh they would take the train to Grand Beach to enjoy the water, sand and boardwalk, but most of all the highlight of the evening would be the Grand Beach Dance where they would dance the night away.  When Joan and Hugh’s family arrived they decided to build the cottage at Star Lake for their family to enjoy for many years to come.  Joan enjoyed attending Church and singing in the choir every Sunday; her voice was angelic.  She loved classical music, which was apparent when she would play the piano.  Joan loved animals, especially dogs which she had many in her lifetime; Brownie, Tinker, Sabre, Sindy, Suzie, Whiskey, Callie and left behind her beloved Jessie.  Everyone who met Joan loved her.  She was the kindest, sweetest lady you would every meet.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Y1.

In Our Hearts

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.

We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake
With which we’ll never part
God has you in His keeping.
We have you in our heart.

“Mom, Nanny, we love you and miss you dearly.
You will always be in our heart.”
