Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Doris Magnusson Funeral Arrangements

            It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doris Ruth Magnusson on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Misericordia Health Centre at the age of 93 years. 
            Left to forever cherish Doris’s memory are her children Al (Dora); Norm (Delene); Tom (Linda); Brian (Kathy); and Sandra (Stacy) Smith.  She was lovingly referred to as “Granny” by fourteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Mike; her Mum & Dad; brothers, Wally and Raymond; and sister, Vera. 
            Doris was born to Harry & Florence Burdett on March 25, 1920 in Nottingham, England.  Immigrating to Canada in 1926; the family arrived on the East Coast and made their way to Manitoba; advantageous for Magnus (Mike) Magnusson who she married on April 18, 1938.  Doris and Mike enjoyed 65 years of marriage and resided in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, and Calgary and finally retired in Redwood Meadows, where they remained for 26 years until Mike’s passing in January of 2004.   Later in 2004 Doris returned to Winnipeg, residing in Silver View Estates Apartments where she made and enjoyed many new and lasting friendships. 
            Doris enjoyed an active life including participation in curling, golf and loved a good game of Bridge.  Her creative talents were showcased in her hobbies, which included Quilting, Knitting and Watercolour painting.   Doris and Mike enjoyed traveling in their early retirement years, including trips to Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, England, Portugal, the Bahamas, Mexico, Texas and Holland, often including their shared love of golf.
            On Thursday, April 11, 2013 Doris’s Funeral Service will be held at 2:00p.m. in Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue in Fort Richmond.
            Mum’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Victoria General Hospital and Misericordia Interim Care for their compassion and care shown during her time with them. 
            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mum’s memory to  Cancer Care Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or CNIB, 1929 Bayview Avenue,Toronto, ON M4G 3E8.
