Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Gladys Sokoloff's Funeral Arrangements

GLADYS SOKOLOFF

It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of Gladys Sokoloff.  Gladys passed away in Winnipeg on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the age of 89 years. She is survived by her children Laurence, Edward (Sandra), and Iris (Douglas); grandchildren Eli and Micah; as well as numerous relatives and dear friends.  Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Goldie and Albert Forscher; sister Selma, who died in childhood and also by Ben Sokoloff.
Gladys grew up in Philadelphia, and attended a prestigious girl's school, for which she was the class valedictorian.  At a young age, she developed strong interest in both the arts and sports. Gladys was an accomplished pianist, but was as comfortable at the opera as at a basketball game. She attended many of the latter enthusiastically with her father.
As a young adult, Gladys took great pleasure in attending Broadway shows in New York, and had the good fortune to see a number of classic theater performances.  She married Ben Sokoloff in 1947 and they and their children lived in a number of university towns in the Midwest USA.  The family moved to Winnipeg in 1966.  Gladys eventually returned to the workforce at a large law firm, beginning as a legal temp and rising quickly to office manager.  She remained in this position until her retirement.
During retirement, she continued to be involved in her many diverse interests, adding French and travel to her pursuits.  One of Gladys' greatest joys was her two grandchildren.  She was a devoted grandmother, and took great pride and interest in them.
Gladys' keen intellect, wit and interests in the world will be greatly missed.   Even while in the hospital in her last week, she was asking family about the results of the college basketball playoffs!
A memorial service will be held in May in Winnipeg.  An announcement will follow.
We want to thank her dear friends Janet and David, Doris and Doreen for their ongoing love and support.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to a charity of your choice.
