AGNES “NANCY” MUIR McRAE
After
a lengthy illness, Nancy quietly slipped away at St. Joseph’s Residence on
Wednesday, February 20, 2013.
Nancy leaves
to mourn, her daughters Heather (Bill) Ashdown, Karen (Brian) Gamley; and two
grandsons, Ryan and Sean. She was predeceased by her husband Jack.
Nancy was born in Winnipeg on March 6, 1927.
She was a remarkable lady, living through the Depression and difficult times
with stoicism, courage, and a unique sense of humour. Although being a mother,
grandmother, wife and homemaker was a priority in her life, she had an unusual
career as Matron of the Old Kildonan Police Force; later she worked for the
Manitoba Lung Association. Our most memorable times with Mom include her
babysitting days with Ryan and Sean, clearing bush at the cottage, and baking
apple pies.
After
a paralyzing stroke, Mom continued to be a quiet strength in our lives. Renal failure and the necessity of dialysis
restricted Mom’s lifestyle but her spirit and curiosity kept her vital to the
end.
No
words can express our appreciation to Mom’s caregivers at St. Joseph’s and
Seven Oaks Dialysis. She was always
treated with respect, dignity and competence.
We also extend a special thank you to Dr. Terry Babick.
All
flowers gratefully declined. In honor of
Mom’s love for animals, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society,
45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
