Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Jean Johnson Funeral Arrangements

JEAN JOHNSON
With great sadness and love, we announce the passing of Jean Johnson (nee Wolchuk) on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Left to cherish Jean's memory are her three children Patricia, Linda and John; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, of 50 years; brothers Clarence and Jim; and sister Nellie. Jean was born in Gimli, Manitoba to her parents John Stephen and Annie Wolchuk. She grew up on a farm near Winnipeg Beach. In 1945 Jean moved to Winnipeg where she met her future husband Donald. In addition to being a devoted mother, she worked for many years at Eatons in the pet department and later Zellers. Much to the delight of her children but chagrin of her husband, many pet canaries found a permanent home at the Johnson's. Throughout Jean's life, she had a passion for many styles of dancing including ballroom, line and square dancing. Jean and Don spent their summers at their lakeside cottage in Ontario, where they relaxed and shared wonderful times with friends, family and neighbours. She truly loved the outdoors and was a master of finding blueberry patches, often returning to the cottage with many full pails as well as a blueberry stained mouth. Often the victim of Donald's good natured teasing, she shrugged it off and was proud to be a country girl coming from hardy stock. Well into her 80s, Jean could be spotted driving her small Corolla over the rough logging road to get to the cottage and then gardening, morning till evening. She had a very green thumb. A private family gathering to celebrate Mom's life will take place at a future date. Jean's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at West Park Manor for their extraordinary care and kindness in Jean's last months. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to West Park Manor Personal Care Home or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
