MARILYN MARIE COLWELL
July 7, 1957 - February
25, 2013
In keeping with Marilyn’s opinion
that there never was a picture taken of her that she liked, the family will
respect her wishes and not publish a photo of her. Marilyn was born July 7,
1957 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At a very early age, she and her family packed up
and moved from the right coast to the left coast, specifically Victoria, BC.
Marilyn lived in Victoria until 1976 when she joined her much beloved Canadian
Armed Forces. She served 36 years until her health issues forced her to retire
in 2012.
Left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are
her husband Ross; son Josh, who was the love of her life. As well she is
survived by her sisters Sandra and Catherine both of Victoria; her mother
-in-law Lois of Winnipeg; numerous nieces; nephews; uncles; aunts; and many
people in her second family in the forces. She was predeceased by her
grandparents; mother; father and a brother; as well as her parents-in-law and
one brother-in-law.
Marilyn fought the fight of her life
with all the determination and vigour that she put into everything that she did.
To the end she had a steely determination and a quiet dignity.
In compliance with Marilyn’s wishes,
there will be no Service.
The family would like to thank Dr.
Young of CFB, Winnipeg, Dr Maxwell, Dr “O”, Tracy, Bonnie and all the other
staff at Cancer Care Victoria Hospital. We would also like to thank Dr Garcia,
Dr “Ted“, all the nursing staff, medical assistants and all other staff on 3E at the Riverview Health Center. The
caring and compassion shown to Marilyn, Ross and Josh during the final days was
truly above and beyond the call of duty. Winnipeg is lucky to have a facility
like that available to those who need it.
