Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Viola Quinn Funeral Arrangements

VIOLA “VI” QUINN
(nee CHILDS)
May 14, 1933 – September 24, 2013

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of an amazing, well respected and loved woman Vi, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 80 years.
Vi is survived by her son Bill (Wendy); daughter Heather (Craig); great grandkids Donovan, Lyla and Nate, grandson Christopher Ausman; furry grandkids Daisy, Cooper, Hunter, Cookie, Cash, Aura and Ry; brother Roy (Iris); as well as numerous nieces; nephews; relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Harold; parents William and Luelda; brothers Wallace, Clayton and George; sisters Marion, Thelma and Joyce; as well as her special little “Doozer.”
Mom was always a hard worker and took pride in every job she did. She worked in the service industry at various hotels throughout Manitoba and on the Paddlewheel Queen and Paddlewheel Princess. For the fifteen years before her retirement in 1992 she worked as a Caretaker for Apex Rental Agency in The Park Towers building on Portage Avenue and Mount Royal.
For anyone that knew our Mom they would know three of her favorite things were cooking and baking for people, knitting and bingo. Every year she would make mittens, toques and headbands for various churches and charities around the city. Mom believed that no one deserved to be cold and with every article she knit she gave away a piece of her heart. Mom always tried to make each Christmas special for her friends and family here in Winnipeg and in New Brunswick by making up special packages of Christmas baking with homemade toffee and her special peanut brittle. That leaves Bingo man alive did she ever love her Bingo! To Mom’s special Bingo Buddies thank you for all the years of company you gave her, rides and friendly competition. I still remember way back when she got out of the hospital after a month stay the first thing she wanted to do was go to Bingo so we did and she won the Jackpot!!
In compliance with Mom’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Mom’s remains will be taken to New Brunswick her second home so she can be close to her son Bill and his family.
We would like to send a special thank you out to the staff of 3 North at the Grace Hospital my Mom’s home for the last six weeks. Whether they were Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Aides or cleaning staff they always treated her with respect and dignity, took excellent care of her and always took a minute or two to stop and say hi and listen to what she had to say. I hope you all know how much your dedication and commitment means to our family. We would also like to thank our family and friends both here and in various places for their love and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers and to honour Mom’s love of animals please make a donation to “Funds for Pets.” You can make donations online at www.fundsforpets.org or by mailing a cheque to “Funds for Pets”, 26 Mariner Crescent, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2P 0V4.
