The devastating tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut impacted people around the world. We could all imagine, "What if that was us?", our family who had lost a child, wife, teacher, principal or a friend.

He has had numerous years of experience in arranging very large funerals and wanted to be certain that there would be ample space to invite the public without turning ANYONE away from wanting to attend, to take part, remember and express their own grief for the loss of these people, their families and friends.

Richard Wojcik Funeral Director - Joachim (Joe) Lackner's Funeral Arrangements
JOACHIM (JOE) LACKNER
After
a brief illness, Joachim (Joe) Lackner, passed away on Monday, December 17,
2012 at the age of 83 years.
Left
to cherish Joe’s memory are his sons, Robert and Michael (Julie); six
grandchildren; brother Markus of Oregon; and sisters Resi Eimannsberger and
Olga Hopfl of Germany. Dad was looking forward to the birth of his first
great-grandchild due at Christmas.
Joe
was born November 25, 1929 in Freising, Germany to Ursula and Rupert Lackner
and was one of 9 children. After the passing of his parents, dad set off for a
new adventure in Canada at the age of 22. It was in Noranda, Quebec that he met
his wife Doris MacInnis. Shortly after being married mom and dad settled in Ear
Falls, Ontario. Dad was very proud of his work as a miner and often talked
about it up until his passing. Dad spent his later years in Selkirk where he
could be closer to his family. He looked forward to his weekly visits to the
Gordon Howard Centre.
On
Saturday, December 22, 2012 Joe’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 in the
Selkirk Inn and Conference Centre, 162-168 Main St. Selkirk, MB.

With very heavy hearts we announce the sudden
passing of our sister and auntie, Valerie Anne Orchard, with her special niece
Keely by her side on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the Riverview Health Centre at
the age of 62 years.
Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her
sisters Dana (Bill) Dunn, Barbara (Jack) Kennedy; as well as her adored niece
Amy Kennedy; sweet nephew Benjamin Kennedy; and niece Keely (Robert)
Starr. She will also be remembered by
Phil Geiler; one uncle; several cousins; “all her little chickens” from MTS and
many dear friends. She will be greatly
missed by her much-loved Poppy. Valerie was predeceased by her Father Stanley
(1993), her Mother Elaine, (7 months) ago, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Valerie
was born, raised and educated in Brandon.
At a young age she began a 20 year career as a Hair Stylist in Brandon
and later in Calgary. In 1986 she moved
to Winnipeg which led her to a long career with MTS, where she worked until
retirement.
Valerie
had a passion for dogs and often opened her home for doggie daycare. She took frequent bike rides to Assiniboine
Park with Poppy perched in her wicker basket.
Her hobbies included decorating, sewing, reading, exercising and
crafts. She volunteered at the Winnipeg
Humane Society, The Fringe Festival and with the Big Sisters of Winnipeg.
In compliance with Valerie’s wishes,
a private family interment will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jan Ritchie as
well as the Doctors and Nurses at both HSC and Riverview Health Centre for
their care and compassion for Valerie.
Our heartfelt thanks to Marci and Sande, there are not enough words to
express our gratitude for the extraordinary support, love and care given to
Valerie during her time of need.

Sadly, the
family of Ernie Chumola announces his peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 11,
2012 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 77 years.
Ernie is
lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years of marriage, Frances; daughter
Debbie (Jim); sons Brian (Kim), and Jerry; grand-children Brianne, Kiahna,
Riley, Brennan and Joshua. He was predeceased by his parents William and Jessie;
sister Mary; sons, Dennis and Timothy.
Born on
January 1, 1935 in Polonia, Manitoba, Ernie grew up on the farm where he
developed his lifelong love of farming. He went on to have a successful career
in the grain elevator business, retiring as the manager of Starbuck Elevator on
December 31, 1995. Ernie had a strong work ethic and expected the same of his
employees, including his son! There was a time to work and a time to play! Once
retired, Ernie worked for local farmers during harvest season. Ernie had many
interests. He loved sports and participated in baseball, hockey and curling for
many years. His children had a #1 fan in their dad as he supported and
encouraged each of them in their athletic endeavours. This carried over to his
grand - children, they’ll fondly remember Grandpa cheering (loudly) for them. He
enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting and camping. Ernie was a wonderful,
effortless dancer and loved to sing. We have fond memories of singing to Buck
Owens and Charlie Pride! Being a voracious reader, he often had 3-4 books
nearby. Going on gambling trips and to Gold Eyes games with Fran was special
for him. Ernie liked gardening and took great pride in their yard and garden.
He was also conscientious in his responsibilities as a church trustee and as bar
manager of the Starbuck Recreation Centre. Above all else, Ernie loved his
family. He was truly proud of each of them and liked nothing better than being
together. Family traditions were important.
A Celebration
of Ernie’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St.
Charles Parish, 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. A private family
burial will take place at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Starbuck, Manitoba.
Following the burial, please join the family for refreshments at the Starbuck
Community Hall.
The family
would like to thank Ernie’s doctors, specialists and nurses at Cancer Care
Manitoba for their wonderful support and care over the years. Thanks to the
Grace Hospital staff who cared for Ernie during his stay.

away peacefully at the Grace Hospital at the age of 76 years.

(Todd), Marnie (Bruce); son Grant (Andrea); as well as grandchildren, Sara (Geoff),

Gladys will be dearly remembered by her
beloved children and grandchildren. Her
kindness and generosity touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Both friends and strangers felt warmth in her company and she will be greatly
missed by all that knew her. Gladys was a sports fan through and through. She loved spending time watching her children
and grandchildren compete in their various sports. Rain or shine, warm or cold
they could count on her smiling face to be in the stands.
Gladys’ memorial reception will be held on
Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a brief tribute from the
family at 1:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn West, 2520 Portage Avenue @ Moray
Street.

announce the peaceful passing of Leslie “Buck” Ingleby on Saturday, December 8,
2012 at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.
He is survived by his son, Harry;
sister-in-law, Agnes Ingleby; brother-in-law, Ron Ulrich (Bev); and many nieces
and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Florence Ingleby;
brothers Tom, Art, Harry, and Stan; and his cherished wife, RoseMarie.
Buck was born near Secretan, SK
and grew up in Moose Jaw, SK. He served in the 77th Battery, 3rd Canadian Field
Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, from 1941-45, in England, Sicily, Italy and
NW Europe. He worked as a Carpenter, Customs Agent, and Meat Inspector, and
happily retired in 1985. Buck found joy in fishing, hunting, fine woodwork,
gardening, baking, reading, cards, Scrabble, and the company of friends and
family. He was very active with Scouts Canada. He was happy to call Swift
Current, SK home from 1969-2008, and he spent his final years living with Harry
in Winnipeg. Buck will be affectionately and lovingly remembered for his keen,
curious, inventive mind, his mischievous sense of humor, his delight in
wordplay, songs, jokes and verse, his tremendous competence at any task to
which he set his hand, and most especially his kind and generous spirit.
No formal funeral service will
be held at this time. A gathering in his
memory will take place in Spring 2013, at which time his ashes will be laid to
rest beside those of his dear wife in Swift Current.

be made in Buck’s name to a charity of your choice.
His son Harry would like to
extend special thanks to Dr. Cavers and the staff of Five South, Victoria
General Hospital, for the kind and compassionate care shown to Dad in his final

profound sadness that we announce the passing of wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, and aunt, Merle Sharifa Catherine Gajadhar (née Ali), on Thursday,
December 6, 2012 at Victoria General Hospital.
Remaining to forever cherish Merle’s
memory are her beloved husband of 60 years, Henry Clinton Gajadhar; daughter, Michelle
Gajadhar-Toor; son-in-law, Tim Toor; and grandchildren Kamisha & Jaitin. Merle was the eldest sister to; Monica
Dolsingh, deceased (Rupert); Joyce Mohamed (Ed, deceased); Gloria Beharrysingh,
deceased (Boris, deceased); Shiraz Ali, deceased (Vilma); Hashameen Carroll,
deceased (George, deceased); Homida Holder; Ayoub Ali; Eumelah Revoy, deceased
(Tom); and Farida Lalbiharie (Noble).
Merle married her husband, Clinton in
1952. Together, and owing to her
husband’s pursuit of higher education, they immigrated to Winnipeg in 1959 where
they quickly established a new life together alongside several siblings and
friends also of recent, West Indian extraction. Howbeit, Merle remained lastingly
connected to her Caribbean island roots (“home”), traveling back-and-forth
continually well into her final years. Above
all, Merle was very much moved by the love she had for her family; her husband
and daughter, and, likewise, her extended family of siblings, in-laws, nieces,
nephews, close friends, son-in-law, and, at length, her grandchildren, who
brought to her life incalculable joy and pride especially in her later years.
Funeral Liturgy will be
celebrated on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1:30p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault
P.H., presiding, and Rev. Msgr. S. Jaworski, con-celebrant. Burial will follow in
Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue.

Peacefully after a brief illness,
we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather,
Brother, Uncle and Friend – Joseph Charles Guarino - on Wednesday, December 5,
2012 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 85 years. To all of those who
loved him, he was the heart and soul of the Guarino family - a loving husband,
a wise Father who endlessly encouraged and inspired his children.
Remaining to forever cherish Joseph’s memory are his
daughters; Cheryl (Rob), Wendy, (Lawrence), son; Jeffrey (Susan),
grandchildren; Jaime (Kevin), Jordan (Hanna), Brandon (Amanda), Brady, Riley,
Melody, Brittany, Andrea, great grandchildren; Ayden, Owen, Anne, Zoey and
Kate.
Joseph was born on November 10, 1927 to Joseph and Rose
Guarino. Joseph attended Gladstone, Earl Grey and Kelvin Schools and graduated
from Kelvin in 1946. He attended second
year University of Manitoba in 1947. During the summer months, Joseph
Life-Guarded at Grand Beach, apprenticed in Pharmacy for 2 years and finally
entered the CNR as a brakeman in 1948 becoming a Conductor in 1952. Joseph
married the love of his life Ella Macholz in 1953 and was happily married until
her death in 2000. During his employment
with the CNR, he began repairing televisions, which led up to a successful
rental business in 1963 – 1970. Joseph’s passion was sailing and spending many
summers sailing on Brereton Lake where he spent many memorable times with
family and friends. He retired from the railway in 1982 and spent time RV’ing
down south with his wife in the winters and summers at the lake. In his later
years he learned about computers and began building them. He could not stay
away from the Lake and spent a number of summers at his trailer at Spruce Sands
Resort
A private family Funeral Service for Joseph was held
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 and Entombment followed in the Queen of Heaven
Mausoleum in Assumption Cemetery at 3990 Portage Avenue where he will rest with
Ella, the love of his life.
Joseph was an exceptional, generous man who will be sorely
missed by many. Special thanks to the kindness and care which he was given at
the Oncology Clinic at Concordia Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined and

spent the rest of his life farming at home and his farm at Grosse Isle.
Leo is survived by his mother Martha;
brothers Ray (Alice), Clarence, Norman, Dennis; sister Rita; nieces Lisa,
Janet, Debbie; nephew Trevor and their families. He was predeceased by brother
Dallan in 1978 and his father Ted in 1986.

after a lengthy illness, with family by her side, Jan Fardy passed away on
Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Oakview Place Personal Care Home at the age of 83
years.
Left
to mourn Jan is her dearly beloved and devoted husband of 35 years of
marriage, Jim Fardy; her children Jim Whitehill (Denalda), Bev Tovey
(Greg), Doreen Collins (Tom), Diane Phillips (Ross) Mike Fardy (Darlene); numerous
grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by
her beloved first husband James Whitehill; son Bob Whitehill;
granddaughter Tonya; father Sam Vokey; mother Anne; brothers John
and Buddy Vokey; and sister Evelyn MacInnis.
Jan was born in Glace Bay, NS and moved to Winnipeg at the
age of twelve. She met and married the boy next door and they proceeded to
have five children. Jan worked at Eaton’s, Locomart and IGA and retired
from CAA. Upon her retirement she and Jim enjoyed many happy years bowling,
golfing, Jim’s Senior’s baseball and numerous trips down south and out east.
She led a busy, active life up to her illness.
On
Friday, October 12, 2012 Jan’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the

Jean Leila Simons, beloved mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Riverview Health
Centre in Winnipeg, MB, age 76 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Left to mourn Jean’s passing and to cherish her memory
are her son and three daughters: Jan (Rhonda) Simons, Winnipeg, MB, Shawn (Jim)

Maté, Pitt Meadows, BC. She also leaves to mourn, 10 grandchildren; 4
great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary and Sandra; many nieces; nephews; and her
beloved kitty, Sophie. She was predeceased by her husband, Dale, in February
1969; parents, Ora & Beatrice Wagner; sisters, Alice and Grace; twin
brother, Jack; and brother, Joe.
Mom was born and raised in Brandon, MB where she
spent her early married life before moving to Winnipeg, MB, Mississauga, ON,
and Victoria, BC, returning to Winnipeg in 1989. She was widowed at a very young age and
raised her four children, all of whom she was very proud. Her greatest love was her family.
Mom enjoyed trips to the cottage, the farm, the West
Coast, and winter vacations. She loved getting together with her family,
whether for a cup of coffee, a Sunday dinner, or a grand celebration. She had a
great talent for making crafts and gifts for all occasions. Mom loved
flowers. She was especially gifted at
creating gorgeous flower gardens and spent many hours tending to them and
enjoying their beauty.
A Remembrance Service will be held on Thursday,
October 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Westwood Presbyterian Church, 197 Browning Blvd. Mom will be
laid to rest with our father, Dale, on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 12:00 p.m.
in the Brandon Cemetery, 18th Street S. (west side), Brandon MB.

Mom’s care givers at Cancer Care Manitoba (Grace Hospital and HSC), and

on July 27, 2012. His face always lit up when he saw Daniel. He is also
survived by brothers Larry (Linda), Robert (Joyce), and Ken (Shirley);
brother’s - in-law Cole Summers and Lance Summers (Lori); as well as many
Aunts; Uncles; nieces; nephews; and cousins. Dad was predeceased by his
parents, Peter and Anne Shelest; in-laws Danny and Blanche Summers; sister
Patricia Russell; and nephew Brent Shelest.
Bruce was born on December 4, 1956 in
Winnipeg, Manitoba. After graduating from Gordon Bell High School, he went to
North Dakota to play college football on a scholarship. When Dad returned to
Winnipeg, he worked Loss Prevention at Eaton’s where he met his soon to be
wife, Kelly. They were married the following year on October 12, 1984. Bruce
and Kelly were blessed with the birth of their son Jordan on May 1, 1987 and
Daughter Taylor March 2, 1992. He was a great father and so proud of them in
everything they did.
Dad joined the Winnipeg Police Service on
September 11, 1989. He took great pride in being a Winnipeg Police Officer and
loved the brotherhood. He worked right up until he was diagnosed with cancer.
Many wonderful summers were spent by Dad and
the family at his in-laws cottage at War Eagle Lake, Kenora where great times
were always had. He was an avid fisherman and in past few years took up ice
fishing with his son Jordan. Assiniboine Golf Course was Dad’s second home the
past few summers, golfing daily. He loved watching his daughter Taylor play soccer
throughout the years. He always looked forward to his daily walks with his dog,
Neeka.
Bruce loved working outside and was so happy
to build his new fence and landscape his backyard this last summer. Our family
enjoyed many barbecues and pool parties with Dad.
In compliance with Bruce’s wishes there will
be no Funeral Service.
In September 2011, Dad was diagnosed with
Colon Cancer. He fought courageously right up until the end. The family would
like to thank Dr. Kotecha, Grace Cancer Care Dr. Pat Harris, and his nurse
Arlene. We would also like to thank the amazing staff at Palliative care who
made Dad’s wishes to stay at home come true. Dr. Mulder, nurse’s Jadwiga (Jay)
and Judy. The family would like to thank the Winnipeg Police Service, friends
and neighbours. As well a special thank you to Cole Summers, and Rob and Joyce
for being there throughout his battle.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in
Bruce’s name to Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada.

EDWARD RONALD CANT
Peacefully
on Thursday, October 11, 2012 Ed passed away with his daughters by his side at
the Grace Hospital at the age of 83 years.
Left to
cherish Ed’s memory are his daughter Sandra Cant; grandson Scott;
great-granddaughter (Piper) Hayley (Ryan); granddaughter, Wendy ;
great-grandsons Morgan & Lloyd; daughter Joanne de Groot, (Glen); grandsons
Brock and Garret; beloved wife Freda and loved by her family, Corrine (Wayne), Leslie,(Perry), Donna,(Kelly)
Norman, Lorraine, Shawna and their children.
As well his memory will be cherished always by his sisters in England,
Jean and Doreen (John); nephews Michael, Kevin; nieces Joanne, Karen and their
families. He will also be remembered
fondly by the Hewitt family. He was predeceased by his youngest sister
Freda.
Born in Whittonstall, Consett,
County Durham, England, Dad immigrated to Canada with Mom (Barbara) in 1957
settling in Winnipeg to work with the Winnipeg Transit and later with St. James
School Division.
Dad, Uncle Ron, Grandpa Ed will be remembered for his “Jordy” wit, his
passion for gardening, his cheesecake, his creative and artistic nature and his
ability to repair or build anything.
Dad will return to England to be
buried alongside his parents, over- looking the beautiful Whittonstall Valley –
no Service will be held.
The family wishes to extend their
gratitude to the Grace Hospital nursing staff for their care and patience
during his illness.

Mom peacefully passed away in her
sleep on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Tuxedo Villa Personal Care home at the
age of 93 years.
Peggy will be lovingly remembered
and sadly missed by her husband Bill of nearly 73 years of marriage; brother
Norm; children Bill (Ruth), Jackie, Ross (Leslie) and Penny (Marvin); as well
she will be missed by her numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces;
nephews and friends. She was predeceased
by her parents Sam and Annie (Glover), brothers John (Jack), Harry and
Don.
Mom grew up on south Parkview
Street in St. James in the days when the banks of the Assiniboine River and the
river itself were a major recreation attraction for all ages. She attended Assiniboine School and Linwood
High School. Being the only girl in the
family and growing up with 4 rowdy brothers provided Mom with special memories
that she fondly remembered throughout her life.
Our Mom and Dad first met casually
through their love of skating at Mason’s Skating Rink. The relationship evolved
and after a short courtship they married in November 1939. Their first child
(Bill) was born in September 1940. War
had already broken out in Europe by the time they got married and, when Bill
was but 18 days old, Dad along with countless others left
to serve his country. During the ensuing 5 years Mom raised a small child alone
with little money or food. Then tragedy struck when within a year she lost two
of her brothers. Jack (RCAF air-gunner lost in the North Sea) in 1940 and Harry
(appendicitis) in 1941. One fond memory she occasionally spoke of during those
times was of a young RAF airman who was in Canada under the Commonwealth Air
Training Plan and was boarding across the street. She would laugh when she
related that he used to get grounded if he got home after curfew. Mom said he
also liked to read poetry. His name was
Richard Burton. Yes, that Richard
Burton. Then one day in 1945 amidst the
pandemonium on the platform at Winnipeg’s Canadian Pacific Railway Station
after the arrival of a trainload of returning soldiers, Mom and Dad were once
again and permanently reunited. The
following 67 years were ones of unconditional love, devotion and dedication to
each other.
Despite raising 4 kids to help
make ends meet Mom also worked outside the home. Among other places she worked
was the Women’s Tribute Memorial Lodge, the Charleswood Motor Hotel, and for
the Assiniboine School District. On top
of all of that she somehow found time to volunteer in her community. Just a few
examples are the many years she gladly gave to the Royal Canadian Legion, local
community club and until deteriorating health dictated otherwise over 10 years
at the Muffin Stop at the Grace Hospital.
Mom and Dad spent their 5 final
years living together at the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence. The family is deeply grateful to all of the
staff there, including the many renewed and new friendships they forged making
those years so enjoyable. The entire family also owes a debt of gratitude to
Betty Moore and Mom’s special friend and knitting partner Gwen Stephens for
their love, care and companionship. “One person caring about another represents
life’s greatest value.”
Mom truly and thoroughly enjoyed
her life, her family and friends. She believed that life was better when you
were laughing. She had a wonderful sense of humour right up to the end. Mom was an inspiration to all who were lucky
enough to know her. She was spiritually
strong and did not fear death.
In compliance with Mom’s wishes
there will be no Funeral Service.
The family would like to extend a
sincere thank you to the staff at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home, especially
Mom’s earthly angels Carmen, Helen and Val.
Charles Dickens spoke of people like them. “A heart that never hardens, a temper that
never tires, and a touch that never hurts.”

stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted its white sails with a
golden light. As it disappeared from
view, a voice at my side whispered “She is gone”. But the sea was a narrow one, and on the
furthest shore a band of long missed family and friends had gathered to watch
in happy expectation. Suddenly, they
caught sight of the tiny sail. At the
very moment when the voice had whispered “She is gone”, a glad shout went up in
joyous welcome with the words, “Here she comes”!
