Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Roger Garrity Funeral Arrangements

ROGER JAMES GARRITY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ROGER JAMES GARRITY on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. He was born in Winnipeg on November 12, 1930.
Left to cherish Roger’s memory are his brothers Richard, Patrick (Helen), Raymond, Robert (Vivien), John, Brian (Joan), James (Beverley); sister Kathleen; sisters in law Marian and Terry; many nieces and nephews; as well he will also be missed by his longtime friends Faye and Steve; his many friends at Ashbury Place and the “crew” at Safeway. He was predeceased by his father William James; mother Marguerite Janet affectionately known to him as “Meg”; sister Mae Nichols of Edmonton; and Lady, the cutest dog on earth.
Before “dropping off the twig” Roger led an interesting and varied life, beginning as a salesman at General Steelwares.  He also worked at a western wear store and did modeling at the same time.  Eventually Roger worked for the federal government starting in Manpower and retiring in 1986 while at Transport Canada.
Other than his day job, Roger loved to coach and manage and started this part of his career at the community club in Point Douglas.  He went on to coach and manage many hockey, football, soccer and baseball teams including the Winnipeg Hawkeyes and the Weston Wildcats.
Roger was also very interested in building model planes, trains and automobiles.  He later graduated to building model soldiers and became very involved with the Model Soldiers Society and won many awards.  His most recent passion was the computer and he has the largest collection of programs, games, backups, and backups of the backups.  He kept everyone laughing with his choice of jokes, his acerbic wit and politically incorrect approach to life.
In keeping with Roger's wishes, a private family gathering will be held later in September.
Thanks to all those at Ashbury Place who helped out, especially over the last year.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice or one of Roger's favorites – the Alzheimer's Society.
