Wojcik's Funeral Home - Olivier Rivard Funeral Arrangements

OLIVIER T. J. RIVARD
December 22, 1922 - September 17, 2013

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our father Olivier Rivard on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 90 years.
Left to cherish Olivier’s memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Marie-Paule (Gauthier); 12 children Raynald (Lucille) Rivard, Trish (Alec) Honke, Rose-Marie (Doug) Komar, Donald (Linda) Rivard, Denis Rivard, Laurel (Serena) Rivard, Maurice Rivard, Harold (Leanne) Rivard, Gisele Prefontaine, Claude Rivard, Robert (Colleen) Rivard and Allan (Robin) Rivard; 28 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lionel and Normand and three sisters, Irene, Florence and Nicole; as well as numerous brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; many nephews; nieces and friends.
Dad was born December 22, 1922 to Theophile Rivard and Rosina Moreau, the second oldest of nine children. On October 10, 1946 he married Marie-Paule Gauthier. They moved to Ste. Eustache where they started their family. Dad was not afraid of hard work and had good business sense. In 1946 he was owner/operator of a gravel truck, in 1950 of the local grocery store, and in 1955 of the Woodridge Hotel. In October 1963 Dad moved his family to Windsor Park where their 12th child was born. Dad started working for C.N.R. in December 1963 and retired in August 1986. Mom and Dad then enjoyed travelling to Mexico, Hawaii, Texas and Osoyoos, B.C. They also loved to camp in Warren, Minnesota, a campground they had discovered with the Joyal’s in 1986 on their way back from Texas. Numerous weeks were spent there with family and friends and many life-long memories were made.
In February 2011 Dad was placed in Foyer Valade where he enjoyed excellent care and many visitors. He was a very sociable man and loved to chat and visit with strangers and friends alike. His health started faltering in July 2013 and even the love of his family and friends could not hold him. He was ready for his eternal home and on September 17th, 2013, his Lord and Father brought him home.
Funeral mass will be Celebrated on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg with Rev. Fr. Kevin Bettens, presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 – 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
