Richard Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Regina King Funeral Arrangements

 REGINA MARY KING
(nee SHEAHAN)
November 1, 1921 - August 19, 2013

Peacefully and surrounded by family, Regina (Jean), beloved wife of the late Paul Leonard King, passed away at the Concordia Hospital. Her memory will be cherished forever by her son Dwaine (Leslie), grandchildren Everett and Gillian; son John (Shelley) and grandson Jason; sisters, Sr. Edwina Sheahan and Sr. Mary Comerford of North Bay; sister-in-law Margaret Sheahan of Ottawa; as well as nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by husband Paul; brothers Jim and Clarence; as well as much-loved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Jean was born and raised on the family farm in Douglas, Ontario during the Great Depression. In her mid-teens, she moved to Ottawa where she worked for the Bank of Canada (a source of increasing pride as she aged).  It was in Ottawa that Jean met Paul. They married and their love and partnership in life as well as business endured for 50 years until Paul’s sudden passing in 1999.
In the early 1950’s their two boys were born and the family lived in Ottawa, Montreal and Sudbury before eventually settling in Winnipeg. Jean and the rest of the King family made lifelong friends with neighbours on Bruce Avenue and also loved sharing some special holidays with Paul’s sister Mary and the rest of the Craft family. In addition to being a homemaker, Jean worked part-time at the university library and then Birks Jewellers. At Birks she expanded her knowledge and passion for fine china, crystal and figurines. In the early 70’s, with their boys off to university,  Paul and Jean ventured into the hospitality business by buying the Gateway Motel in Minnedosa and then the Whiteshell Motor Inn at Falcon Lake. Lots of hard work, friendliness, Paul’s willingness to learn to fix anything, coupled with Jean’s fetish for cleanliness, her ability to recycle anything, her talent for cooking great soups and dressing up the most mundane sandwich with carrot curls and radish roses, resulted in success with their motels. That success allowed them to enjoy a retirement stint in the Florida Keys plus several winters of travel in the southern states and Mexico, followed by extended winters in Australia and New Zealand, then Spain and Portugal. When the grandchildren were born, the travels tapered off and Paul & Jean retired to a lovely new home in LaSalle.
In recent years Jean’s failing physical health coupled with Alzheimers resulted in several moves; from her LaSalle home to a condo at 3030 Pembina, then a suite at Lindenwood Manor and finally to a room at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre. At each of these homes, Jean was blessed with sensitive care and friendships.
Jean had an artistic temperament. She had a flare with clothing and accessories and was always impeccably dressed. Her homes were always lovely and super-clean!  She was a talented amateur painter and many family members proudly possess one of her oil paintings or water colours. Jean was a caring mother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was always extremely proud of her three grandchildren and their many accomplishments.
Jean was a proud member of the CWL for many years at Mary Mother of The Church, 85 Kirbridge Drive, where Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Kevin Bettens, presiding.  A private family Interment will be held at the St. Vital Parish Cemetery at a later time.
Our family would like to express a special thanks to Father Kevin, the staff at the Concordia Hospital, the staff at Lindenwood Manor and Kildonan Personal Care Centre.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to a charity of your choice.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to WOJCIK’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, wojciksfuneralchapel.com, 204 – 586 - 8668.
