THEODOR HAPKE
August 24, 1928 – December 14, 2012

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Theo on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the age of 84. With extraordinary strength, courage and dignity Theo passed peacefully with family at his side in his home after facing his battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Hulda; son, Reinhard (Elaine); daughter, Linda (Tim); son, Roland (Janelle); grandchildren, Christopher, Erika and Andrea; Elaine’s daughters Jordyne and Taylor; the Mantei family in Alberta and Poland; nephew, Helmut and family in Germany; nephew, Richard; niece, Susan and their families in the U.S.; and also many family and friends throughout Canada and Europe. Theo was predeceased by his infant daughter Annie; his parents; and his brothers.
Theo was born on August 24, 1928 in the village of Nowe Zalueze near the town of Chelm, Poland. He went to West Germany in 1950. There he met and married Hulda on March 13, 1954. Two months later Theo and Hulda came to Canada arriving by ship in May 1954. They worked at Lee Tully’s sugar beet farm in Newton Siding near Portage La Prairie for five months. In October 1954 they moved to Winnipeg and Theo started working at Quality Construction as a drywaller and continued as a drywaller until his retirement. Theo enjoyed many happy years with family and friends in his retirement.
On Friday, December 21, 2012 a celebration of Theo’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Road, Winnipeg.
Theo and the family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Dasa Silhova, Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba, Dr. Ted St. Godard, the special nursing team and all those that called, visited, prayed and had Theo in their thoughts during his last few months.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Theo’s name to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
