ELIZABETH (BETTY) JOYCE
MCDOUGALL
(nee WHITLEY)
November 11, 1925 -
September 12, 2013
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of
our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Betty passed away,
peacefully, on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Riverview Health Centre with
her children and grandchildren by her side.
Betty will be deeply missed and remembered by her
three loving daughters Susan, Bess (Rick) and Debbie (John); grandchildren;
Darryl, Kathy (Mike), Tracy (Brad), Tamara, Michael (Nikki), Dana (Derek),
Ashley and Brittany (Mayo); 10 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces;
nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband George; daughter
Judy; and granddaughter Cheryl.
Betty was born in Leeds, UK to Sydney and Edith
Whitley. She met George overseas during the Second World War, while she was a
Telephonist. On May 25, 1946 they married in St. Augustine's Roman Catholic
Church in Leeds, UK. Shortly after that they made their way to Winnipeg
where they started their family. Betty worked as the front desk manager at The
Mall Hotel until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. She was then able to return
to her home of Leeds for a memorable visit with her childhood friends.
Our Mom and Grandma filled our lives with many
memories. She shared stories of the War, taught us how to knit, gardened and
shared her British culture with us. She was a very independent woman, ahead of
her time. She took care of herself and her family and left behind a beautiful
footprint for our future.
In
keeping with Betty's wishes, no Funeral Service will be held.
Special thanks to the staff of Riverview Health Centre
2 West for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please acknowledge Betty’s life
with a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 – 6 Donald Street,
Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
