ALBERT SHEPHERDSON
James Albert Shepherdson passed away
on Sunday, January 20, 2013
He is survived by his wife Megan who
was the love of his life through sixty one years of marriage and many
travels. He is also survived by his
daughter Susan Shiells and her husband Grant who he loved like a son;
grandchildren Gary Shiells (Kimberley Friesen) and Fiona Shiells (Dale Edmunds)
and great grandsons Chase Edmunds and Logan Shiells.
Albert was born in Pontypool, S.
Wales to Bert and Naomi (Rees) Shepherdson On December 18, 1928. He attended West Mon Boys School before
taking a welding apprenticeship and working with his father at Pontypool
Welders. After serving as a sergeant in the REME he returned to school and then
began lecturing at Cross Keys Technical College. In 1966 Albert immigrated to Canada where he
worked for the Canadian Welding Bureau and later Dominion Bridge. In 1976 he left to work for Pullman Kellogg
in the Peoples Republic of China, Saudi Arabia and Trinidad before returning to
work in Edmonton and Fort McMurray.
Al returned to Winnipeg after his
retirement and he and Megan spent many years golfing at Breezy Bend Country
Club in the summer and in San Antonio in the winter. He loved golf but his true passion was rugby
which he played from the time he was seven until well into his forties. In Wales he played for Blaenavon and Brynmawr
and in Winnipeg for the Wonderers. In
Trinidad he coached the national team.
He was honoured to be in the Manitoba Rugby hall of fame.
In compliance with Albert’s wishes
there will be no Funeral Service.
