Richard Wojcik Funeral Director - Nellie Yakimow

NELLIE YAKIMOW
(nee PETRUSH)

With her family by her side, Nellie passed away peacefully on Monday, December 17, 2012 at East-Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour, MB at the age of 98 years. Mom accepted the invitation from the Lord to attend the celebration of Jesus’ birth in heaven together with family and friends.
Nellie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ernie (Olive), Gordon (Sylvia), Annette (Don), and Rosemarie (Barry); grandchildren Odette (Erik), Shea (Sara), Angie (Lee), Jason, and Erin (Marcel); great grandchildren Omar and Zoe; sisters Elsie Zdrill and Margaret (Willy) Balagus along with many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, John; parents, John and Annie Petrush; brothers Bill, Stanley and Steve; sisters Mary, Teenie and Helen.
Mom lived a wonderful and full life. She and dad farmed in Allegra, MB and in 1973 they retired in the Town of Beausejour.  Mom loved flower gardening, especially perennials, and always had a rich and colorful garden around the house.  She was also well known for her baking – family and friends could drop in for a visit at any time to a variety of homemade goodies such as pies, donuts, butterflies, rice pudding paskas and perogies.  Nellie also loved listening to Ukrainian music and singing Ukrainian Christmas Carols with brother in-law Willy Balagus and Peter Klym every Christmas. Her biggest passion was her family – dinners together meant the world to her and Nellie loved hosting everyone at her home.
This morning, Friday, December 21, 2012 a Celebration of Nellie’s Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Brokenhead Recreational Complex, 320 Veterans Lane (off James Avenue) in Beausejour, MB. For those who wish, viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Brokenhead Cemetery (Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery).
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at East-Gate Lodge Personal Care Home for the wonderful care provided to mom over the last four years. She enjoyed her time with all the staff and the numerous activities and recreational outings.  The family would also like to thank their friends and relatives for their continued support and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East-Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour, MB or to the Perpetual Care of the Brokenhead Cemetery.
