LORNE WILLIAM
MONTFORD

1931-July 24, 2014
Peacefully, after a lengthy
illness, we announce the death of Lorne William Montford on July 24, 2014, at
Deer Lodge Centre. He was 82 years of age. Lorne is survived by his wife of
twenty-two years Irene Montford (nee Hardy), son, Hal Montford (Julie) and
their children, Michael and Justin Montford, daughter Linda Montford-Hildebrand
(Randy) and their children Emily and Luke Hildebrand. He is also survived by
Irene's children, David Kidd (Susan) and their children Amy, Ashley, Jennifer
and Owen, and Kathy Adams (Brian). Lorne was predeceased by his parents,
William Colin Montford and Juliette Salin Montford (nee Johnson) and his first
wife Marlene Montford (nee Weinmaster) mother of Hal and Linda. He is further
survived by numerous other relatives who offered support, love, and care on an
ongoing basis.
Lorne was employed by The
Canadian Salt Company until his retirement. He worked and lived in a variety of
locations including Yorkton, SK, Brandon, MB, Burlington, ON and he finally
returned to Winnipeg where he was born. Lorne was raised in Winnipeg and was
very proud of his English and Icelandic heritage. His childhood was
significantly impacted at age twelve when his mother became ill. Lorne spent
the next two years visiting her daily in hospital before she died at the age of
43. Lorne went on to become an avid and successful basketball player and upon
completing high school attended art school for one year. In his retirement,
Lorne enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren as well as golfing in
Carman. Lorne will be remembered for his humour, charm, and love of sports.
A memorial service
conducted by Rev. Pat Ferris will be held at Deer Lodge Centre Chapel, 2109
Portage Avenue on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A private Interment will
take place at the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman, MB. The immediate family is truly grateful to
friends and family for their continued support now and in the past.
