MARCEL SYLVESTRE
RETIRED WINNIPEG POLICE
CONSTABLE
With
deep sadness we announce the passing of Marcel Sylvestre on Saturday, July 26,
2014, at the age of 78 years; we are comforted that he has been released after
years of suffering with Lewy Body Dementia.
Marcel
is survived by his loving wife Verna of 53 years; son Greg with Leesa and
beloved granddaughters Jenna and Nicole; daughter Gina with Rainer; sisters
Stella and Claudette with Al; sister-in-law Joyce; and many cherished nieces
and nephews who will miss “Mon Oncle Cel”.
As a father and grandfather, Marcel was extremely devoted and caring,
always putting his family before himself. His father Alphonse; mother Simone;
brothers Roland and Robert; sister Marguerite; brothers-in-law Andre and Leo;
sister-in-law Rita; infant brother Armand; and nephews Jimmy and Real
predeceased Marcel.
On
July 19, 1936 Marcel was born in Antler, Saskatchewan, to Alphonse and Simone,
and was the second youngest of six children. Following his early years in Belgarde,
SK, Marcel and his family moved to Fannystelle, MB, and then to St. Boniface.
Marcel was from a large, close-knit and loving family whose greatest joy was
being together.
In
1994, after 28 years of service, Marcel retired as a member of the Fort Garry
and the Winnipeg Police Departments. His retirement was enjoyed on the farm in
Starbuck, travelling and being with family.
Funeral
Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Mary Mother
of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive with Rev. Fr. Kevin Bettens, presiding.
Inurnment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, in Assumption Roman
Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
We
thank all those who assisted Verna in the care of Marcel over the years, and
the wonderful people at the Victoria Hospital’s ER and Unit 2, who made
Marcel’s last week a peaceful and comfortable time.
Flowers
are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
