RICHARD WOJCIK'S WINNIPEG FUNERAL DIRECTOR - ELIZABETH MELNYK FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

“Together for Eternity”
ELIZABETH AGNES MELNYK
(Nee CHIPURA)

On Monday, May 5, 2014, at the age of 74, Mom left us to join her husband and life companion Edward on the beaches of Heaven.
Left to forever cherish Mom’s memory are her children Larry, Lisa, Tim, and Chris (Tara, Lily); as well as grandchildren Chelsea and Lauren; and faithful companion Kujo. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1999.
Mom was born in Winnipeg, and was raised in Chatfield, Manitoba, before the family moving to Winnipeg. The oldest of eight children, she was working at the American Consulate when she met Dad, who was attending University of Manitoba before beginning a career with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. Originally, they planned on living in Calgary, but with Dad’s work keeping him on the road during the week, and an impending family, the decision was made to move back to Winnipeg to be closer to family, and for Dad to change careers to Teaching.
While raising a family, Mom was involved with all of the kids’ activities, including the Richmond Kings Community Centre, where she was honoured with the Woman of the Year award.  She also never missed the kids playing hockey, baseball, soccer, figure skating, and dancing.  As us kids grew, Dad became involved in OCOD (the Organization for Cooperation in Overseas Development) as a team leader, and many summers were spent in the Caribbean educating their teachers, some years with young Chris in tow.  They enjoyed the discovery of new places and cultures, and made plans to continue travel in their retirement.
Sadly, however, Dad passed before those travel plans could be fulfilled.  As time went, Mom got rekindled with the travel bug, and trekked around the globe, including such highlights as walking on the Great Wall in China, touring the mountains of Machu Picchu, and even landing in a ski plane on a glacier in New Zealand.  Travel was a great joy for Mom, but perhaps her greatest joy was in her children and grandchildren – she always created a welcome home for them, and took special pride in watching her grandchildren grow – she was a very proud Grandmother.
Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg with Rev. Fr. Gary Ward presiding.  As per Mom’s request, a private family Interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank all the staff of 4 south ward at Victoria General Hospital for all their kindness and compassion during Mom’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth and Edward’s names may be made to Jocelyn House Hospice, 177 Egerton Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 2W7.
