I'd like the memory of me,
To be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
Of smiles when the day is done
I'd love to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days
I'd like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories I leave behind
When the day is done.......
Until we meet again.

RICHARD WOJCIK'S WINNIPEG FUNERAL DIRECTOR - ELIZABETH PEDDIE FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

ELIZABETH MILLAR PEDDIE
(nee COSSAR)

Elizabeth "Betty" Peddie (nee Cossar) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 98 years.

Betty is survived by her sister Janey Harrison; niece Patricia Maxwell (Brian); niece Irene-Elizabeth Johnson; niece-in-law Allison Harrison; numerous great nieces and nephews; and an abundance of life-long friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur Peddie in 1993; brother-in-law Noel Harrison in 2009; and nephew Tom Harrison in 2014.
Betty was born in Winnipeg on April 24, 1916, the elder of two daughters born to Scottish parents Tom and Christine Cossar. She graduated from Kelvin High School and continued on to receive her Licentiate for piano from the Royal College of Music.  By playing with a local Scottish orchestra Betty was able to cover her fees at Angus Business College. In early 1942 she left her job as a stenographer at Metropolitan Life and enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC). Ten months later she sailed with other CWACS and troops on a five day voyage to London, England where as a member of the First Echelon Intelligence Branch, Betty was entrusted with handling highly sensitive military intelligence. She lugged her heavy accordion on her slender 5’3” frame throughout her CWAC career, bringing  joy to captivated  audiences by playing in barracks, the  London underground, hospitals, concerts, on short wave radio and at sea.
Stationed in Italy, Betty met her beloved future husband, Arthur “Red” Peddie, an enlisted soldier who also happened to be a Winnipegger. She returned home to civilian life in 1946, the couple married in 1949 and were together until Red’s death in 1993. After the war Betty worked for the Conservative Party and then at the Deer Lodge Centre until her retirement in 1981.
More than 60 years after the war, Betty was still keeping spirits up with her vibrantly cheerful personality and her regular piano gigs at Heritage Lodge, Sharon Home, Poseidon Care Home and Deer Lodge Centre. She started playing the organ for the CFB 17 Wing Chapel after her retirement where she made many wonderful friends and was dearly loved. One of Betty’s neighbors thought she must have had a twin as she was so busy with her piano playing and attending all the different organizations with which she was involved. Over the years, Betty’s family loved singing along with all the old Scottish tunes and other popular music at family gatherings as she “tickled the ivories”.  Betty confided that “I never feel like I’m old - you don’t get old inside, you know!”
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Canadian Forces Base 17 Wing Chapel, at 2235 Silver Avenue (off Whytewold Road north of Ness).
Special thanks to all the staff in T6 Ward and Prime at Deer Lodge Centre for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre or the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Manitoba.

RICHARD WOJCIK'S WINNIPEG FUNERAL DIRECTOR - JOHN DYCK FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

JOHN WALTER DYCK
1951 - 2014

It is with the deepest sadness we announce the passing of John Walter Dyck at Riverview Health Centre Friday, June 13, 2014.  He is survived by his wife and best friend of 20 years Linda; children by his first wife Deb Martinuzzi -  Nadine (Jayson),  Christopher (Holly),  Teresa (Ian); six beautiful grandchildren Olivia, Vivian, Sophia, Francesca, Josephine and Henry; his father John and stepmother Neta; brother Ernest (Shari); sister Marlene (Phil); and nieces and nephews.   John was predeceased by his mother    Erna (nee Goertzen) in 1980.
John was born and raised in Winnipeg.  He was a graduate of River East Collegiate and went on to Red River College to study drafting.  He went to work for a while in the graphic arts field.  In the 70’s, he and Deb started a coffee truck service in Fort Garry – J&D Catering.  This grew into the Lunchbox Mobile Catering, and Peaks and Ridges Restaurant.  John became the concessionaire and caterer at the Red River Exhibition for the seasonal shows and during the Ex, managed the Red Barn.
One of John’s biggest loves was his cottage on Lake Lac Du Bonnet.  He built it himself and some of his happiest times were spent there.  John was an avid golfer, fisherman, snowmobiler and downhill skier.
John was a strong vital man who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He liked people and greeted everybody with a genuine word and a firm handshake.   He loved his children and would have walked to the ends of the earth for them.  He was a decent, honest, humble man – not perfect but good.  He believed that by hard work he could make his corner of the world a better place for his family, his friends and acquaintances.  That made him a success.  He weathered the obstacles and the disappointments of life.  He was a fighter to the very end.   We cannot begin to express the profound loss and the vacuum this has left in our lives.
We would like to thank our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers for their support over the last several years.  It is impossible to count the kindnesses shown to us by them, and by total strangers, as we worked our way through this.
Our deepest thanks to the Manitoba Brain Injury Association, Manitoba Alzheimer Society, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, St Boniface Hospital Family Medicine, Deer Lodge Centre and the outstanding people at Riverview Health Centre for helping us walk this long and winding road.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Buntain Chapel, 400 Hargrave Street and reception to follow in Calvary Temple banquet hall, 440 Hargrave Street.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

WOJCIK'S FUNERAL HOME - JAMES PUGH FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

JAMES (JIM) RUSSELL PUGH

CAVU is an acronym used by aviators. It means ‘Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited’ – ideal flying conditions.
James Russell Pugh was an aviator. He flew the hottest fighters at the beginning of the Cold War; the trickiest helicopters; lumbering transports; and docile and unforgiving trainers – 138 aircraft types in all during a 35 year military career and later as a civilian instructor.
He investigated aircraft accidents in hopes of preventing the same events from happening to other pilots. He flew chilled organs across Canada in a jet for a life-saving transplant. He trained American helicopter pilots in Nap of the Earth flying techniques for survival in Vietnam.
Out of the cockpit, Jim Pugh loved his family, camping, travelling (83 trips), socializing, building and flying model aircraft, and was extraordinarily well read and informed. He was a natural mechanic, from his first flame-spewing Model A to his beloved Cadillac – every weekend he could be found in the garage with tools and a smile. He passed this knowledge on to his son, grandson, and son-in-law.
Squadron Leader (Ret.) Pugh’s final flight occurred on June 8, 2014, after a recurrence of debilitating cancer and almost two months in hospital. He died peacefully at 82 in his new Winnipeg home, attended by Helen, his wife of 58 years. Jim’s memory lives on with his son Jeff; daughter Virginia; grandchildren Brennan, Charlsey, and Valerie; son in law Gerald; and former daughter in law Rebecca.
A private family gathering will be held at Rushing River Provincial Park.
In lieu of flowers, cards, or gifts, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society of Manitoba would be appreciated by the family.

WOJCIK'S FUNERAL CHAPEL - DONNA HAMRLIK FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

DONNA LEE HAMRLIK

Donna passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Left to cherish Donna’s memory are her sister Valerie Botwright; brother Byron (Wanda) Hamrlik; nieces Britanny and Lauren Hamrlik; Angel Olafson (Donald) and great niece Rayne. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Agnes Hamrlik; baby sister Lynn; and brother-in-law Stewart Botwright.
Donna (Dee) was born and raised on a farm near Hodgson, Manitoba amongst loving family, friends and neighbours. Even after she left Hodgson, Dee returned to visit dear Auntie Anne Hamrlik whom she called “my other mother” and lifelong friends, the Bell sisters. Her nieces and grand-niece were her pride and joy. After Mom’s death Donna moved to Winnipeg where she began a life of retirement in her new home at Fred Tipping Place. There she gained the love and respect of tenant-friends who appreciated her humorous, caring and giving nature. Donna was famous for her banana bread and had a never-ending order for it. She loved volunteering for the lunch program, bingos, cribbage, shuffle board tournaments and many social events. Her favourite time of the year was Christmas, when she could bake and buy gifts for family, friends, and all of her “adopted grand–babies”. Donna thoroughly enjoyed time spent at the Christian Fellowship Chapel. She was an associate member of Royal Canadian Legion Branches #158 and #252.
A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Christian Fellowship Chapel, 465 Osborne Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Chaplain Paul Holbrook officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Special thanks to Dr. R. Lotocki and staff at Cancer Care St. Boniface. Grace Hospice staff, you are indeed angels on earth.
Respecting Donna’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hodgson Cemetery Fund, Box 135, Hodgson, Manitoba, R0C 1N0.

Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Gerald Ramsey Funeral Arrangements

GERALD HARVEY RAMSEY

On Friday, June 6, 2014 the Vancouver Canucks lost one of their most dedicated fans as cancer claimed victory over Gerald Ramsey. Although cancer won the ultimate battle, it could never alter the respect, admiration and love that Gerald had developed in his journey through life. Gerald leaves behind many family members, friends and work colleagues that will forever miss his quick wit, calm demeanor and helpful nature. Those who had the good fortune to meet this amazing man very quickly fell victim to his magnetic personality and became a fan for life. Unless he was having a really bad day, he usually left you smiling after even a brief encounter.
Gerald leaves behind his wife Linda; daughter Kristy Brown (Warren Stobbs); son Matt Brown; step daughter Jessica Lemer (Shawn Juskow); stepson Joshua Lemer; grandsons Jakob and Ryan Stobbs; mother Mary McDonald; mother-in-law Leona Lee; twin brother George Ramsey (Kimberley); sisters Laurie, Eileen, Adrienna, and Jennifer; niece Linda Burns (Jason) and son Dylan; and many other family members; friends; and work colleagues.
On November 3, 1963 Gerald was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, just 10 short minutes before his twin brother George who by the way was still trying to beat his big brother at cribbage up to the very end.
A main highlight is Gerald’s life accomplishments came with the birth of his two children and subsequent grandchildren who were of utmost importance to his happiness. He relished in their accomplishments and was extremely proud of the absolutely amazing people Kristy and Matt have grown to be.
Gerald had various jobs in his early working life but quickly found his calling as one of the leading technical resources for Reliance Products over 30 years ago. Under the fatherly leadership of Claude Cormier, Gerald and his work partner and good friend Wayne Chief worked their way through roles at Reliance developing irreplaceable technical expertise and an extremely strong personal bond.
Although I have considered Gerald a friend for over 18 years, it was only in recent years when we helped each other through some personal changes, that we concluded that we wanted to share our lives exchanging vows on January 18, 2014.  I consider myself the luckiest woman in the world to have had the honour of being the chosen life partner of such an amazing man.
Gerald and I only attended one concert together and the lyrics to one of this artist’s songs seem appropriate to share:

My Old Friend
Today I said goodbye to my old friend
I pray some day we get to meet again
Under one more clear blue sky
Up there where the eagles fly

Yeah, I know you’re up there looking down
On that rainbow bridge we talked about
There’s a place for me and you
Somewhere up there behind the moon

Where we’ll go walking in the sunshine
With a big smile on our face
Race the river to the ocean
Go splashing in the waves

And I’ll wrap my arms around you
We’ll be together once again
And I’ll tell you how much I’ve missed you
My old friend

At Gerald’s request there will be no formal services.  His remains will be spread in areas that Gerald felt significant in his life.
Gerald and I would like to thank all the medical professionals at Cancer Care that helped him in his fight against Lung Cancer and we would especially like to thank the Palliative Care team in Winnipeg for care provided through Gerald’s final weeks.  As a very special thank you, we both want to thank the leadership and staff at Reliance Products for the support through this very difficult time and the understanding and encouragement to spend time together in the final weeks.  You have assured that there are NO REGRETS.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honoured by donations in Gerald’s memory to the Autism Society of Manitoba, 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5 or Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
