Mary
overcame a lot of challenges in her life, the first when she started school
having to learn English as a second language. As the eldest, she had to leave home at 14
years of age to help support her family.
Then when raising her own family, her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse
required that she pass each year of schooling starting at Grade 9 and achieving
her High School Diploma before she could be enrolled at Red River College. Mary
graduated with her Nursing Diploma in 1975 at the age of 51. Her nursing career for the Federal Government
took her to many locations and as far north as Oxford House, Manitoba.
While
struggling to provide for her family, Mary became the first woman in Manitoba
and the fourth woman in Canada to be awarded independent Property Rights. She worked with the Status of Women for the 50/50
Financial Support Rule.
Always
active in church, school, and community affairs, Mary taught by example many
life skills. She modeled generosity, integrity,
honesty, dedication, perseverance, and hard work. She loved to learn and encouraged others to pursue
their dreams.
On
Wednesday, July 3, 2013 Mary’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the
Headingley Community Center, 5353 Portage Avenue, Headingley. For those who
wish, viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow in Holy

The
family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the homecare, first
responders and healthcare professionals who provided her with love and care.
In lieu of flowers, open up to someone in need.

you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I
needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after
me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
