MARGARET YEATS
(nee HAMILTON)
With great sorrow, we
wish to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Yeats most
recently of 303 - 125 Portsmouth Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Margaret passed
away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Grace Hospital after suffering a stroke
at the age of 87 years.
Margaret was
predeceased by her beloved husband Russell; her two brothers Jim and
Jack, and parents Lily and Walter Hamilton. She is survived by her three
loving daughters, Jane Eibner (John Heath) of Victoria, BC; Nancy Eibner (Al
Thomson) of Winnipeg; and Linda Eibner (Muhamad) of Winnipeg. She also leaves
behind her late brother Jack’s children, Jim, John, Neil and Joan Hamilton.
On June 6, 1926
Margaret was born in Winnipeg, to Lily and Walter Hamilton, who had moved here
from Bradford, England early in the 1900’s. She and her two older brothers, Jim
and Jack, grew up and went to school in River Heights. After graduating from
Kelvin High School, Margaret worked for a number of years at the Great West
Life Company. During this time, she met and married Leonard Eibner.
Together, Margaret
and Len had three daughters, and lived in Vancouver and Montreal. In the early
sixties she moved back to Winnipeg with her daughters to be with family and
friends. She was a very courageous woman to do this, especially in those days.
In 1966 Margaret
married her childhood friend, soul mate and sweetheart, G. Russell Yeats, of
Winnipeg. Russ predeceased her in 2001. Had she and Russ lived, they would have
celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on May 14.
Margaret was a quiet
person but she also greatly enjoyed her friends. She had a quick mind, a ready
wit, and she didn’t suffer fools. She played bridge, and continued to be
well-read and physically active into her mid 80’s. A longtime member of the
Rady Centre, she also volunteered at the Crafts Guild of Manitoba for many
years. Mom loved gardening and was an accomplished dressmaker and needlewoman
who created many beautiful items of clothing, hand-stitched quilts, and a
variety of needlework projects. She loved nature and surrounded herself with
beauty. She was a modest and determined woman who lived with high expectations
of herself and others. She was generous to her church and to the charities that
help the people and especially the children in her city.
On Wednesday, July 2,
2014 Margaret’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s
Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street at Grant Avenue. There will be a reception to
follow.
In lieu of flowers, a
donation to Siloam Mission, or Winnipeg Harvest would be appreciated.
