Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Roy McCall Funeral Arrangements

ROY J. MCCALL
1922 - 2013

Sadly, ROY JOHN MCCALL, 90, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, surrounded by loving family.
Roy leaves behind children Kathi McCall of Winnipeg, Margo McCall of Los Angeles, Ian McCall of Winnipeg and Pam Grossi of Victoria, BC, and; grandchildren Kelsey McCall, Nina McCall, Jennifer McCall, Ryan Backman of Winnipeg, and Dana Grossi of Ajax, ON; and sons-in-law Peter Bell, Jay Willman and Randy Brumbaugh; daughter-in-law Antonella Grossi; Mike Ladouceur, and numerous nieces and nephews in England and Canada.  He was predeceased by wife Kay, brothers Kenneth and Douglas and parents Robert and Winnifred McCall.
Born in Wolverton, England in 1922, Roy lost his father at three and learned early on the values of hard work and determination. The family survived by growing their own food, taking in boarders, doing odd jobs, and only lighting the fireplace on Sundays. When he was 18, Roy enlisted in the R.A.F. for the Second World War, served as a navigator in the Royal Air Force Transport Command and was stationed in Egypt. He met future wife Kay Downing of Leamington, Ont. while training in Goderich in 1942.
After Roy and Kay were married in 1947, they emigrated to Winnipeg where Roy took a job at Canada Packers and rose to foreman. Roy switched to real estate in 1962, joining Campbell, Lane & Haliburton in St. James, and quickly becoming a member of the Winnipeg Real Estate Board’s Million Dollar Club. He founded Harmony Homes Realty in 1969, had many repeat customers over the years, and earned his FRI, CRA, and CMR designations.  Roy and Kay raised their family in the St. James area, where Roy retired at age 72.
Roy's retirement years were centered on his family gatherings.  He would meticulously plan every aspect of these parties; seating plans, speeches and even the menu; Roy would hand-print the dinner's menu for each setting.  Roy would often loudly play his favourite music. These dinners were splendid affairs and were always the highlight of the season.
As Roy got older, daughter Kathi became a central figure in his life, visiting Roy many times  a week for 15 years and ensuring he spent his last years being well looked after. Roy often expressed his gratitude for his daughter Kathi's commitment to the quality of his life.
In compliance with Roy’s wishes there will not be a Funeral Service.
Roy's family would like to thank the W.R.H.A. Home Care workers, Veterans Affairs and the staff at Grace Hospital ICU.
Roy led a long, interesting life; his time well spent, his legacy in his family and their values.  It is with great sadness that the family of Roy McCall announces his death and with great respect and love that the family of Roy McCall celebrates his life.
