ALINE MARTIN
(nee CHIASSON)
Quietly, between one breath and the next, Mom passed from this world
into the welcoming peace of Heaven on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in her 84th year.
Aline is survived by
her daughters Maureen, of Winnipeg, and Barbara (partner Paul, and daughter
Britt) of Selkirk. She is also survived by her brothers Guy of Victoria,
Richard of Val Belein, QC; sister Yolande of Montreal; many nieces and nephews;
and very dear friend Rosa, of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. She was predeceased by her
husband Bill; parents Arsene and Emilienne; siblings Emile, Pat, Helen, Stella,
Wilfred, and Marcel.
In 1929, Mom was born
in Rogersville, NB. She was raised with an attitude of hard work, dedication to
family, and steadfast faith in God. She sang in the choir at church, helped out
on the farm or in the store, cared for grandparents and siblings to the best of
her ability. She loved to tell the story
of picking potato bugs and collecting them in jars to earn money to go to the
fair. Mom hated bugs.
Mom trained as a
nurse, and RN diploma in hand, headed for Montreal. Over her forty-odd years in
nursing, she worked every aspect of the profession, from ER to private nursing
to long-term care. And she worked in several provinces, finally retiring in
Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
It was while working
in Montreal that Mom and Dad met. He didn't speak French, so Mom was called in
to translate since she could speak English. Dad was smitten and asked for her
phone number. Aline and Bill Martin were married from July 14, 1959 until Dad's
death January 1, 2001.
Funeral Liturgy will
be Celebrated on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle
Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue with Rev. Fr. José Eduardo Medeiros,
presiding. Entombment will
follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. A reception in the church hall will follow
the Entombment.
A special
thank you to Rev. Fr. José Eduardo Medeiros and Jo Cork for the support of Mom,
to the 3South staff at Grace Hospital for their patience, kindness and
compassion, to the Saturday crew at San Vito
Coffee, especially Brett and Marissa, for indulging and spoiling Mom, and to
Lori, Heather, Candace, Rona, and all the St. Paul the Apostle family for their
love and prayers and continued support of Mom through her illness.
The family asks that
in lieu of flowers, a non-perishable food item be brought to the Church for
Winnipeg Harvest, or a donation be made to the charity of your choice.

An oft repeated conversation with Mom:
Mom - But how can there be enough room for all the souls
in heaven?
Maureen - God is God; he can do anything.
Mom - But every soul that ever lived? That's a lot of
souls. Is there a big room somewhere, or does everyone have their own room? How
does it work?
Maureen - Good question, I have no idea. You should ask
when you get there.
Mom - Oh, I have a lot of questions, you better believe
it!
Well, Mom, now all your questions have been answered!
