Wojcik's Funeral Home - Alf Anderson Funeral Arrangements

ALFRED “ALF” RICKARD ANDERSON

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, brother, grandfather and husband at the age of 81 on Monday, October 21st, 2013 at Calvary Place Personal Care Home.
Father was born on February 7th, 1932. He was born at home in Algar, Manitoba, the second of four children, to parents, Robert (section foreman CN) and Signe. They later settled in Lake Francis, Manitoba.  As a young man, father came to Winnipeg and worked construction, helping to construct the new 59 Highway.  He then worked at Booth Fisheries and onto C.P. Express where he finished his career as a driver after 41 1/2 years of service - taking only a handful of sick days that entire time.  He met our mother in 1955, and married in 1957. Three children would follow.  Dad loved returning to the countryside, picking berries, visiting friends and family.  He was a simple man known to some as "The Chief" or just plain "Andy".  He gave all for his family.  He was a man of integrity, honesty and principle - believed in saving, buying his very first car brand new in cash.  He enjoyed 16 years of retirement during which time he & mom danced, visited and watched their family grow. Father moved into a nursing home with the onset of Alzheimer's in 2008. The staff at Beacon Hill, & later Calvary Place, always spoke of father as a gentle man. To them we owe a debt of gratitude for their unconditional support and respect shown toward our father.
His gentle manner and memory will survive in those who cherished time spent with him.  Our mother Catherine (Kay) 56 years of marriage; son Kristjan (friend Debbie) & granddaughters Kristen and great-grandson Hayden, Kari and Karley; daughter Bonnie and grandson Evan (Calgary); son Lyndon & granddaughter Elyssa; and brothers, Art (Doris) and Albert (Carol), and sister Agnes (Fred) Luciow. Many nieces and nephews and all those others who had the privilege to know our father.
Father's service will be held Monday, October 28th, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Place 1325 Erin St. Following the service a light lunch will be served next door at Betelstadur 1061 Sargent Ave. All are welcome to attend. Interment with immediate family members will follow at Brookside cemetery.
In remembrance of our father we encourage that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of one's choice
