Richard Wojcik Funeral Director - Merle Catherine Gajadhar Funeral Service Arrangements

MERLE SHARIFA CATHERINE GAJADHAR
(nee ALI)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Merle Sharifa Catherine Gajadhar (née Ali), on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Victoria General Hospital.
Remaining to forever cherish Merle’s memory are her beloved husband of 60 years, Henry Clinton Gajadhar; daughter, Michelle Gajadhar-Toor; son-in-law, Tim Toor; and grandchildren Kamisha & Jaitin.  Merle was the eldest sister to; Monica Dolsingh, deceased (Rupert); Joyce Mohamed (Ed, deceased); Gloria Beharrysingh, deceased (Boris, deceased); Shiraz Ali, deceased (Vilma); Hashameen Carroll, deceased (George, deceased); Homida Holder; Ayoub Ali; Eumelah Revoy, deceased (Tom); and Farida Lalbiharie (Noble).
Merle married her husband, Clinton in 1952.  Together, and owing to her husband’s pursuit of higher education, they immigrated to Winnipeg in 1959 where they quickly established a new life together alongside several siblings and friends also of recent, West Indian extraction. Howbeit, Merle remained lastingly connected to her Caribbean island roots (“home”), traveling back-and-forth continually well into her final years.   Above all, Merle was very much moved by the love she had for her family; her husband and daughter, and, likewise, her extended family of siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, close friends, son-in-law, and, at length, her grandchildren, who brought to her life incalculable joy and pride especially in her later years.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1:30p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault P.H., presiding, and Rev. Msgr. S. Jaworski, con-celebrant. Burial will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue.
Her family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate and tireless devotion and care.
If so desired, donations may be made in Merle’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 – 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
