Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Mildred Chwan Funeral Arrangements

MILDRED CHWAN
August 25, 1924 – October 29, 2013

Peacefully, after a brief illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mildred Chwan at the age of 89 years.
Remaining in the Chwan family to forever cherish Mildred’s memory are her children, sons, Brian of California; Daniel (Laureen) of Saskatchewan; and daughter June Courtland of Winnipeg. She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband William, her son Bill Jr. and daughter-in-law Jill Chwan.
Our Mom was an amazing woman. Her accomplishments were many especially her culinary skills she acquired over the years. She was self-taught as a result of living in the country in her early years where improvising became a necessity and was practiced throughout her life.  As Mom became proficient at her meal preparation skills, she worked as a chef in many of the finer restaurants in Winnipeg in her early years. Her collection of hand-written cook books was in the 500 range and was very proud of what she compiled over the years.
Mom worked as a cafeteria manager at Christie Biscuits and then decided to change her endeavors. She became employed by Red River College in the accounting department, both as a cashier then as head accountant for 17 years. She received the Meritorious Service Award from the Government of Manitoba at her retirement in 1990. She was very proud of her accomplishments but mostly becoming a mentor to many people in the field of finance. At the advice of her Manager, she took a chance and stepped outside the box and learned and practiced things in the finance world that, at the time, was not readily accepted.  This proved very beneficial in later years to both her and her family.
Mom loved her home on Ross Avenue, and truly loved her summer home at Matlock which always brought back fond memories during conversations with the family she so truly cherished. She always felt blessed and loved to talk about the old times. She also enjoyed going to McPhillips Station and an occasional trip to Las Vegas when she was able. Mom loved the excitement. She is loved by all of us and will be missed for a long time.
At Mom’s request, no formal funeral service will be held.
Our family would like to send a special thanks to the entire staff at The Quest Inn, and the Maples Personal Care Home for their excellent care and support during Mom's stay.
