Wojcik's Funeral Chapel - Kenneth Nicol Funeral Arrangements

KENNETH CHISHOLM NICOL

On the evening of October 24, 2013 Ken passed away quietly at home. The family is grateful to the Palliative Care Team for providing the necessary support to enable us to be together at home during the final weeks of Ken's life.
Ken will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by Doreen, his wife of 60 years, and their children Grant and Lynn. He also left to keep him in memory many nieces; nephews; extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter-in-law Sharon (nee Carty); sisters Jean Knowles, Irene Chase and Margaret Schebek; and also by brothers Bob, Art, Jim, Jack and Dave.
On December 1, 1926 Ken was born in Winnipeg to Annie and John Nicol. He was the youngest of nine children. He was raised in Winnipeg and went to live and work in Trail, B.C. during the early '50s where Ken met and married Doreen. Shortly afterward they moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family.  Ken spent the majority of his working career in the warehouse and distribution section of Canadian General Electric.
Ken was very athletic in his younger years. He excelled at baseball and felt deeply honoured to be inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame on three occasions: in 1998 as a member of the Fort Whyte 1954-60 Tournament Team; in 2000 as a player/coach of the 1955-59 St. Boniface Native Sons; and, in 2001 he was inducted as an individual player.
Doreen, Grant and Lynn extend thanks to the palliative and home care staff as well as our extended family, friends and co-workers who provided care, understanding and practical help to Ken and our family through these last weeks. We extend an extra special thank you to Jen, Chris and Ana Lou for your compassionate assistance.
In accordance with Ken's wishes no formal services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Ken may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
