WOJCIK'S FUNERAL HOME - BARRY DOUGLAS JOHNSON FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

BARRY DOUGLAS JOHNSON
June 13, 1957 – December 16, 2014

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Barry (Booio) on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the age of 57 years.
Left to cherish Barry’s memory are parents, Gordon and Lois Johnson; sister, Karen (Tom) McDougall; brother, Bruce Johnson; nephews, Craig (Chelsey) and Rob (Chantelle Gauthier) McDougall; grandnephews, Logan and Bryce McDougall; daughter, Rheanne Sicotte; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins and good friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Hazel Koralewicz, Lee Chase, and Mary and Jack Johnson.
Growing up in Fort Garry and Fort Richmond, Barry formed many lasting friendships along the way. His life was defined by the quantity and quality of his relationships; his friends were like a second family to him.
Barry was a fierce checker on the ice in his day, and a gregarious manager in some of Winnipeg’s top bars. He was a trucker at heart, and drove big rigs all over North America for the last several decades. It was a tough way to earn a living, but it suited him well, and he loved being out on the open road.
Two recent trips to Thailand fulfilled a lifelong dream for Barry, and created a whole new batch of friends. He was working hard and saving his pennies for a return trip. AA played a big role in Barry’s earlier life, helping him get through a tough time, and he in turn acted as mentor and friend to many in the AA family. A significant source of pride for Barry and his family was his recent achievement of his grade 12 credentials.
We will all miss Barry’s infectious smile, hearty laugh, big bear hugs, and his ability to ‘be real’. He taught us so much, and he will be in our hearts forever.
A private family service will be held, and a celebration of Barry’s life will follow early in the New Year, details TBA.
Thank you to the emergency responders and police for their efforts on the scene.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Siloam Mission or Winnipeg Harvest.
